Dr Donatella Frendo Dimech, who until yesterday occupied the post of Deputy Attorney General, was today appointed to the Bench of Magistrates during a brief ceremony at the President’s Palace which was attended by, among others, members of her family.
Dr Frendo Dimech joined the Attorney General’s Office in 1997 and was assigned to work in the prosecutions department. Her primary responsibility was for international co-operation in criminal matters, including extraditions, the investigation of alleged money-laundering offences and cross-border crime. She was also responsible for ensuring the execution in Malta of European Arrest Warrants.
In 1999 she was promoted to the post of Counsel for the Republic, and became a Senior Counsel for the Republic in 2004. In 2012 she was appointed to the post of Deputy Attorney General.
In October 2014 Dr Frendo Dimech was elected to the Bureau of the Conference of the Parties to the Council of Europe’s Convention on laundering, search, seizure and confiscation of the proceeds from crime and on the financing of terrorism.
