09/09/2013 - Judge presents credentials in Strasbourg

Judge Joseph Filletti, who retired from the Bench in March 2011 upon reaching the statutory age limit of 65 years, today presented his letters of credence as Malta’s Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe to the Secretary General of the CoE Thorbjørn Jagland. Judge Filletti, who is also Malta’s non-resident ambassador to Portugal, will be taking up residence in Strasbourg.

Judge Filletti is the tenth Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe since Malta joined the Council in 1965. The first (appointed in 1965) was Mr Philip Pullicino, whereas the last three prior to Judge Filletti’s appointment were Dr Noel Buttigieg-Scicluna (1987), Dr John Buttigieg (1997) and Dr Joseph Licari (1999), Licari serving for fourteen years until his retirement in July of this year.
