At a ceremony held on Thursday 22 April 2010 at San Anton Palace, one of the halls of the President’s official residence was renamed and dedicated to the memory of Sir Anthony Mamo, a former Chief Justice who was also Malta’s last Governor-General and its first President. The hall, formerly known as the Blue Room, will now be called the Sir Anthony Mamo Hall. The inauguration of the fully refurbished hall was held in the presence of many guests including members of the family of Sir Anthony, the Chief Justice and Mrs Degaetano, former Presidents of Malta, former Chief Justices and Judges, members of the Diplomatic Corps led by the Papal Nuncio Mgr. Tommaso Caputo, persons who were involved in the restoration and refurbishment of the hall, and other guests. His Excellency the President Dr George Abela, in a speech for the occasion, sketched the life, times and achievements of Sir Anthony, including his involvement in the constitutional development of Malta. The guests were also entertained to a delightful short concert of classical music and operatic arias by soprano Maria Abela Manconi and pianist Kimberly Terribile.
