On Tuesday 10 November 2009 members of the Judiciary and Judicial Assistants began attending a two day conference on the application of EC Competition Law in Malta. The conference, held at the Westin Dragonara Resort, was organised by the Malta-EU Steering and Action Committee (MEUSAC) in collaboration with the Judicial Studies Committee and the United Kingdom Competition Appeal Tribunal. The Directorate General on Competition of the European Commission is co-financed the conference. The conference was also attended by officials from the Malta Office of Fair Competition, from the UK Competition Appeal Tribunal and from the Malta Commission for Fair Trading. The main speakers at the conference were Professor Eugene Buttigieg and Professor Lino Briguglio from the Department of European and Comparative Law and the Department of Economics respectively of the University of Malta, and Mr Adam Scott OBE TD, Ms Vivien Rose and Mr David Bailey from the UK Competition Appeal Tribunal (click here for photo).
